Back Door Beauty

Thank you so much for all of your kind comments and emails regarding my last post.  I SO appreciate your encouragement and inspiration.

Deckflowers1

I thought I would show your what greets me as I come and go from our back doors.  I love to see them first thing in the mornings.  There is usually a mist that time of day since we sit high on a hill.

I'm working on the front door beauty... and it needs LOTS of work.  Soon I will show you it's "before and after" shots.

Why can't I...

Windowflowers

Why can’t I keep up with my blog? Blogging is something I have wanted to do since before there were blogs.  I think I have come up with a couple of reasons…

Growing up, one of the hardest school subjects for me was grammar.  Things didn’t get much better in college with all of the essay writing. Perhaps I am looking at blogging as an area in which I will be harshly critiqued.  However, I really don’t feel that is the nature of blogging and that most people are kind souls who have walked down some of the same roads and are fighting the same battles.

Another reason would be, I live a very quiet life and just can’t imagine the little things that make up my day would fascinate anyone. I live a HAPPY life but feel sure that those of you reading this probably live a much more EXCITING life.

So for now… I have decided to ignore the little voices that warn me from sharing… the little voices that tell me no one is interested in seeing my little pieces of art (probably due to a few bad “show and tell” episodes), or hearing about me re-arranging yet another room.  I’ll just write what my soul needs to spill forth and hope that it speaks to someone.

Road Trip...

Church

Around the 8th of June, I drove from Philadelphia to Chattanooga, TN.  Even though I've made this trip many times, I've never slowed down enough to notice how beautiful the countryside is.  How lovely were the rolling hills with quaint little churches nestled in their valleys! How peaceful and tranquil it all seemed to be.

I'm glad to be back home.  I know it is good to take breaks from our everyday routines, but I longed to be back in my studio.  Don't get me wrong... I enjoyed the time I spent visiting family.  I REALLY enjoyed the delicious meals my sister-in-law cooked each night and the neighborhood walks.  I had almost forgotten just how good sweet tea is!

Spring is here!

What a BEAUTIFUL day it is today!  It's 57 degees, the sun is shining and there's a gentle breeze blowing.  Out patio was in much need of a sweeping and all of the outdoor furniture needed de-leafing so I spent a little time cleaning.  Our dog Socks was glad to have my company.  She patrolled the perimeter of the yard with pride (showing off a bit, I think).

There is still so much work needed.  The flower beds are full of leaves and debris.  For some reason, we didn't do too much to the gardens last year but I have big plans for this year. I'm looking forward to spring nights sitting out with a cool glass of sweet tea and enjoying the view.

Here's a few pictures of what the gardens looked like a few years ago. (Sigh)

Patiently, waiting for Spring

Waiting-for-spring

If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant.
If we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.

Morning Readings...

Beach-Cabin-1
"My business is not to remake myself,

But make the absolute best of what God made."

-Robert Browning

Sometimes it is easy to focus on our flaws and before we know it, that's ALL we focus on. This is very crippling. We need to realize that we have given a combination of special talents and gifts.  It is our purpose to make the best of, AND USE of what we have been given.

This morning I did a little reading from "Simple Abundance" by Sarah Ban Breathnach. As you can tell, this is a book I enjoy reading from.  The tidbits and passages I share with you are things that I really need to  apply to my life.

"Making the absolute best of ourselves is not an easy task. It is a pleasurable pursuit, it is the reason we were born, but it requires patience, persistence, and perseverance."

(And for me, a lot of prayer.)

Just try making the best of what God made. "

Installing a Husband

Chocolatevalentine
My cousin sent me this a few minutes ago and it was so cleverly written I thought I would share it.  I think I spend SO much time on my computer that I have a hard time functioning in real life.  Quite often when I have misplaced something in the house, my first inclination is to do a "search".  Unfortunately, that doesn't work.  I also look for an "undo" button quite often.

Is there anyone else out there that feels the same way???

Happy Valentines!

INSTALLING A HUSBAND

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a
distinct slow down in overall system performance, particularly in the
flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly under
Boyfriend 5.0.

In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs,
such as
Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed
undesirable programs such as
NBA 5.0, NFL 3.0 and Golf Clubs 4.1.

Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes
the system.

Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these
problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Signed,

Desperate

DEAR DESPERATE,

First, keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while
Husband 1.0 is an operating system.

Please enter command: ithoughtyoulovedme.html and try to download
Tears 6.2 and do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update. If that
application works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically
run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

However, remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband
1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0 or Beer 6...1.
Please note that Beer 6.1 is a very bad program that will download
the Farting and Snoring Loudly Beta.

Whatever you do, DO NOT under any circumstances install Mother-In-Law
1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize
control of all your system resources..)

In addition, please do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend 5.0
program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband
1.0.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited
memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider
buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We
recommend:
Cooking 3.0 and Hot Lingerie 7.7.

Good Luck !

I have no idea who wrote this or I would give them credit.
